  i usually dismiss the "drinking the kool aid" scenarios that are posted from time to time, but the latest wt has another bit of fearmongering.

  the quote from page 20, para 17. elders who are reading this article can draw some useful conclusions from the account we have just considered: (1) the most practical step that we can take to prepare for the coming attack of the assyrian is that of strengthening our faith in god and helping our brothers to do the same.

  (2) when the assyrian attacks, the elders must be absolutely convinced that jehovah will deliver us.

  Nice little video. This guy could've been the PO in any of our congregations - seems like a genuinely nice person, which makes the video quite effective.

  Also glad to see Hassan getting ex-JWs into the mix. Good stuff.

  PS: is it just me, or does Steve Hassan bear a ballpark resemblance to Peter Sellers when he's viewed in profile. . . . .?

  Something odd just happened when I logged on!

  i typed in my name, password and the captcha, expecting to see my name come up in the top right corner and what i actually saw was someone else's name!

  (the name was another member of this board).

  i looked at it for a few seconds feeling a bit puzzled and not sure what to do about it and as i looked it automatically changed (whithout me doing anything) back to my own name.. has anyone else had this happen to them?

  If you were a District Attorney what charges would you charge Jehovah God with?

  my friend hector who is an ex-jw had me laughing so hard i started crying when he asked me this question.

  i was over his house for coffee one day and somehow the subject came up and he said jehovah has to accept some of the blame for the problems of the world.

  he said if he were da he would charge jehovah with child endangerment and child neglect(killing all of the children in the flood, sodom and gommorrah, 42 kids with the bears in the ot) he also said he would charge jehovah with flip flopping on his own laws such as you can eat meat(after the flood) then certain meats were forbidden(leviticus laws such as rabbit, beef, duck,) then nt said you can eat all meats again.

  Stick with Pimsleur, that's how I started French.

  Also helpful (and I realize you may not want to do this) was listening to and reading the Watchtower in French. It was actually a big help, and expanded my vocabulary. Despite the actual content of the magazine, it worked pretty well because its written at a simple yet (somewhat) adult level, and the readers on the recordings speak clearly and have good pronunciation (from what I could tell).

  After that, I moved on to Fremch podcasts from France, which speak a lot faster and use a lot of colloquialisms that can be difficult to understand.

  when i was an elder, most of the elders were pretty independent 40 to 80 year olds.

  they had no issue speaking up to the circuit overseer.

  i wonder what the average elder is like now.
